This time, we’re looking both back and forward, putting the spotlight on three exciting new online courses developed within CoECI. Each course supports a responsible, human-centred, and forward-thinking creative practice—from understanding and ethically using generative AI, to redesigning digital systems around public values, and exploring new ways to visualise our relationship with nature. Together, they show how technology, ethics, and creativity are coming together in new ways.
These courses will be available from February 2026, and this session is a great chance to get a first look. Whether you’re a designer, researcher, educator, maker, student, or just curious, this session is for you. AI literacy for professionals in the creative industry / AI-geletterdheid voor professionals in de creatieve industrie
Generative AI is changing the creative industry fast. This course shows what AI can do today, highlights ethical and legal questions, and helps you build a responsible and future-ready AI strategy. With practical tools, legal guidance, and hands-on exercises, this 12–16 hour course empowers professionals to take charge of AI in their work.
Tessa Duzee
Lecturer and researcher in technology & ethics at – AD Smart Media Production en Creative Business HvA. Tessa focuses on the societal and creative impact of generative AI, guiding professionals to use AI responsibly and critically.
Publieke Waarden in het Digitale Domein / Public Values in the Digital Domain
The internet is broken, but we can fix it. This updated course shows how digital technology always reflects human choices. Using the Public Stack model, you’ll explore how to design digital systems that support inclusion, transparency, and autonomy. With real-life examples, reflective exercises, and practical assignments, this course helps designers, policymakers, educators, and other professionals make a positive impact in the digital world—no technical background required.
Eva Vesseur
Project leader at Waag Future Lab and head of the Maker Education Lab will tell you more about this course. Eva has extensive experience in innovative learning and education, including projects on technological citizenship and engaging young people in democracy.
Reimagining Nature
How can we see nature—and our role in it—in a new way? This course introduces creative research methods that help educators and researchers explore human-nature relationships. You’ll try out speculative imagination, digital storytelling, interactive video, and other techniques to tackle urgent sustainability questions. With hands-on exercises and group reflection, this is an inspiring, experimental approach to teaching, making, and thinking differently about the future.
Inte Gloerich
Researcher and lecturer specialising in digital technology, affiliated with the Institute of Network Cultures and Visual Methodologies at HvA. Inte recently completed a PhD on blockchain technology and explores topics like the digital economy, online platforms, and alternative internet cultures.
